Organizing Makes Time for Fun!


 

 This week I’ve been reorganizing my computer.  Peter rebuilt it and that meant I had to save everything and put it back when he had finished. 
It occurred to me that I have been pretty sloppy about saving and organizing my many (and I do mean many) photographs.  So instead of just dumping them on the ‘new’ computer, I went through them and deleted, organized, deleted, organized and now they are back in folders where I can actually find them.  That also meant there was no time to play in clay or make jewelry!   “It takes less time to do a thing right, than it does to explain why you did it wrong.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow  - and then do it again!
The exercise reminded me, once again, to do it right the first time.  It saves time, money, eyesight, frustration and makes more room for joy!  So this small bundle of success has inspired me to take more time for the little things - the first time around. 
Now that I have my work done, I'm going to play!  A reward!

I’ll be out of town this weekend enjoying the Tucson Symphony play Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, which famously caused a riot at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris at the premiere in 1913.  Also the Tucson Early Music Society, http://azearlymusic.org   features ‘The New Esterházy Quartet’ performing music showcasing Mozart and Haydn's Intertwined Relationship.  History and music never cease to entertain! 
And yes, we will see friends, go birding and visit one of my favorite places – The Sonoran Desert Museum http://desertmuseum.org/  I’ll have lots more photographs to put in the correct folders and to share on Tuesday’s Nature Post!

The Draw of the Mojave Desert or Why I Started Designing Jewelry

When you look at my etsy stores you see Mojave Stone jewelry .  In the 1970's, my father and two brothers mined a stone in the Mojave Desert in the middle of nowhere California!  Actually, the mine was somewhat but not very close to Desert Center.  It had been a gold/silver mine before they staked their claim and began mining stone.  My family lived in Missouri and the stone had to be trucked from the desert after strip mining it.  I was married and away from home so I got to hear the stories of making a road, fighting off bees, surviving the heat, being careful of the critters and all the other 'Wild West' excitement.  And I did not have to rough it! Dad was going to retire (some day) and make and sell the polished cabochons (a stone cut and polished usually with a flat back and a convex top) for jewelry.  In the meantime, he had some distributors sell it, some metal smiths create pieces, and he trademarked it as 'Mojave Royal Blue' and 'Mojave Stone'.  He

Giving New Meaning to UPCYCLE!

My first ever ‘Do Over Challenge’ was such fun!  I signed up to participate in Jeannie K Dukic ’s 6th Do Over Challenge not really knowing anything about how it worked.  I received a necklace that was very sweet with copper wire connections and pinkish pearls.  It sat on my work space for a couple of weeks while I pondered my next move.  One day I opened my polymer bead collection and was drawn to the pinkish and green beads.  They really looked good with the pearls.  I found some green crystal beads and a few other contenders.  But when I tried the small striped beads, I knew my combination!  This is the finished product for most of the pearls in the original necklace.
