I recently spent 3 days with a very good friend I had not seen for too long a time.  We talked non-stop and caught up with so many ideas, thoughts and projects.  She showed me her hummingbird feeder she made from a vinegar bottle.  She attached a wire for the hummingbird to sit on that would be too delicate for a woodpecker.  It seems her woodpeckers try to get into (and do) the feeder to drink.  We laughed because I'm trying to feed and attract the woodpeckers at my house!  As you can see, the wire is a perfect perch for this Broad-billed Hummingbird.  It was the first time I've really seen one.



There was one bud on this cactus when I arrived at her house.  Of course I took the bud picture and was very excited the next morning when it opened.  This spectacular bloom lasted one day...one day of glory!







The grasshoppers were also just hatching!  I got to take their picture before they were unceremoniously sprayed off the zinnia leaves!




So much fun to visit and see the world around me.

    I have woodpeckers up the whazoo! I'm going through two packs of suet a week now! Even the cardinals are eating it and, before this season I've never seen a cardinal on the suet feeder!

    Susan, we started using Peanut Crunch Suet and everyone loved it! We were also going through 2-3 packs a week, decided to take a break while we were away and now no birds. Suet is back up and we are waiting for the birds to come!

Spring Do-Over Challenge

Re-do of Original Pieces Plus My Art Beads  I’m hooked!  The Do-Over Challenge that Jeannie Dukic ‘JKD Studio’ www.jkdjewelry.com offers has become something I look forward to.  Jeannie sends pieces of her ‘old’ jewelry to those of us who sign up and we get to create something new from them.  It does not matter if we like the piece she sends because we take it apart, add beads from our stash and create a completely new piece.  It’s a great way to recycle. The Draw of the Mojave Desert or Why I Started Designing Jewelry

When you look at my etsy stores you see Mojave Stone jewelry .  In the 1970's, my father and two brothers mined a stone in the Mojave Desert in the middle of nowhere California!  Actually, the mine was somewhat but not very close to Desert Center.  It had been a gold/silver mine before they staked their claim and began mining stone.  My family lived in Missouri and the stone had to be trucked from the desert after strip mining it.  I was married and away from home so I got to hear the stories of making a road, fighting off bees, surviving the heat, being careful of the critters and all the other 'Wild West' excitement.  And I did not have to rough it! Dad was going to retire (some day) and make and sell the polished cabochons (a stone cut and polished usually with a flat back and a convex top) for jewelry.  In the meantime, he had some distributors sell it, some metal smiths create pieces, and he trademarked it as 'Mojave Royal Blue' and 'Mojave Stone'.  He
