A Presentation of a Brief Overview of Polymer Clay

Image
A collection of polymer jewelry 'Carnival' This week I made a presentation to members of Mountain Artists Guild here in Prescott AZ of some of the things I've made from polymer clay.  The purpose was to expend the members knowledge a about the many possibilities of this wonderful medium.  I wanted to share my slides with you hoping to also expand and inspire you! Collaboration in Wood, Decorated Eggs So many uses of polymer.  So many ways to create!

Polymer Clay and Wood - a Collaboration

Sometimes working with another artist produces a unique piece of art.  In this case my older brother, Dave, turns wood and makes beautiful vases, bowls, platters and any other item that comes to his mind and hands. Another polymer artist Cynthia Tinapple and her husband's work combining combining polymer inlay in wood intrigued me.  I've wanted to try it for quite a while.  I researched the technique and invested in a digital thermometer and a heat gun.  I knew some day I would use them. When Dave said he was turning a walnut vase I asked him to make two recessed bands about 1/8th inch deep and 1/2 to 1" wide.  We collaborated to determine the placement and size.  He lives in Kansas and I live in Arizona so there were lots of emails and phone calls. Summer Flowers

'Summer Flowers' Doing a Happy Dance now that my summer color scheme is finished!  This was fun to create with many possibilities.  I chose to show some of the ways I use polymer canes to create 3-dimensional forms that tell a story.   I live in the mountains of Arizona and am always looking for wildflowers to photograph.  Their colors and shapes amaze me as they grow along the road, in field or on a hillside of rocks.  They look delicate but obviously they are hardy and withstand wind, trash, off road vehicles, rain and all kinds of other natural and man-made hazards.  I wanted to capture their strength and beauty in polymer.  Thank you for following the journey in the last 2 posts.  Take a minute and look again at the progress from start to finish! Please leave me comments below with your reaction to my summer flowers.  The 20 x 20 inch canvas will be hanging in The Prescott Art Market all summer.  Stop in a take a look!  Yes! It's for sale!
