It’s been a while since my last post and while I missed writing them, I hope you also missed sharing my adventures!  Between a road trip to Berkeley and having painful (very painful) shoulder tendonitis my activities really slowed down.  Now I’M BACK!  Ready to explore new techniques and have fun. When I see a good tutorial about something new that catches my fancy, I buy it and eventually the day comes when I just have to try it.  Staci Louise Smith wrote a tutorial “Gold Rush: The Rustic Crackle Technique” for Craft Art Edu.  I loved the pictures of her necklaces and wanted to see what I could do.  If you like the crackle effect  on my pieces or want to try something new, check out her tutorial on   www.CraftArtEdu.com    They have good classes on many subjects. I signed up to take Heather Campbell’s class, “Lady Luck Pendants” through http://www.craftartedu.com/ .   The ad for it looked so intriguing and I love the ornate look of her pendants.   It was worth the $25 cost of the class!   I selected left over clay in a variety of colors and gathered canes that blended with them.   I pulled out sequins, crystals and bead caps.   By now my desk is piling up.   Did I mention that it was late evening and I really wanted to try these techniques right then!   Patience?   None!! I read the tutorial again (I had watched the video earlier) and zeroed in on the transfer section.   The transfers needed to print on a toner printer.   We have that.   But I did not have images I wanted to transfer. Hmmm… I take photographs and I have an album of lace photos that are black and white.   After selecting 8 images, I printed them on the correct printer.   What? no clay softener ?   I thought, “why not try Sculpey Bake and Bond”.   I bet that would wo

I just took Donna Kato’s class CONTEMPORARY SQUASH BLOSSOM PENDANTS from Craftartedu.com As I was about midway through the video, I realized that this might be one of the few classes where I actually stopped the video to make the project at each step just the way it was presented.   The end result was very close to the class photo with a few exceptions to color shading.   I’m very happy with what I learned and with the piece.   While making my squash blossom, I followed the directions for mixing the colors, backing the cane slices and applying the canes, etc.   Copying a piece makes me feel uneasy and that’s why I tend to just watch the video or take classes that show a technique and turn me loose.   Could be I’m missing some of the finer points that way!   Thanks Donna Kato! After I finished the pendant, I decided to use some of the leftovers and make buttons and beads.   Sharing some with you. Buttons ready to sell! Might be my next creation!
