Fungi and Rain

Image
An inspiration for a necklace! It's been raining a lot around our Prescott area  and mushrooms of various kinds are bursting through the ground.  On a recent trip to Tucson we went to the Sweetwater Reclamation Area (a favorite place to see birds) where we found more fungi.  I've been fascinated with fungi for years and have accumulated many pictures!  Thought I'd share some with you this week.   These tiny umbrellas are less than an inch in diameter growing next to a potted plant I find the colors, shapes and textures so interesting.   I don't know their names and need to look those up. In the meantime I'm sharing their beauty! Beautiful flare to this fungi Another angle of the flared fungi Stacks of bracket fungus I love how the bracket fungus attaches to the curve of the tree

Inspired by Nature - Fungi

Back in October of last year, I shared this picture of fungi on a tree with my facebook friends.   I thought it was most unusual with all the ruffles.   Sheri Selles Lesser also commented about the scarf and gave me a link for a scarf pattern.   I was intrigued and downloaded it from http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/curly-swirly-scarf .   Several weeks later I bought some yarn and a hook.   I could not find where my old one was stashed.   Too many years between crocheting projects!    As my life goes, the pattern and the yarn and hook sat in a sack for a few more weeks. This past Wednesday I started to crochet and this is the finished product!   Not bad!   I also had a photo shoot for my jewelry and had the model wear the scarf so you could see it on her.   You should check out her company "Twitterpated"  by Ashley Spicer.  Very talented lady!  http://www.etsy.com/shop/beTwitterpated?ref=seller_info When I got home, I could not resist han

The Much Maligned Mushroom

see the silver metal clay pendant at the end of this post I have to confess that I am not a mushroom lover.   I also must confess that I am intrigued with their appearance and have taken a great many photos of them from the east coast to the west; from forests to mountains and in my brother’s front yard in Missouri.   Many of the books I read (you know- the romance novels about Ireland and Scotland) often talk about the importance of fungi in medical treatment and in witch’s brews!   So I thought October would be a great month to share some of those pictures as well as share some of their history. The ancient Egyptians (about 4600 years ago according to hieroglyphics) thought the mushroom was the plant of immortality.   Mushrooms were declared to be the food for only royalty; no commoners could touch them much less eat them.   Other civilizations thought the mushroom could provide superhuman strength and could lead the souls of men to the land of the gods.   Louis XIV is thoug
