Linda's Magic Workshop - Linda Britt Design

16 x 20 Finished Painting  Anyone who knows me knows I love to experiment with materials and color.  When the Prescott Art Market sent out the invitation to artists for the quarterly 'Changing of the Colors', I knew it was time to experiment with polymer clay in a new (for me) format.  Rules: a set size (16" x 20") canvas, all sides were to be painted black, and a set color scheme.  These will be hung June 2 and voted on.  Someone will get a prize so if you are in the Prescott area after June 2, please have a look and vote! A good friend of mine makes beautiful colorful quilts and I've watched her make the 9 patch pattern.   With a little guidance about quilt patterns from her, I decided to make a '9 patch' painting using alcohol inks, a straw, acrylic paint, wood and polymer clay. 5 1/2" square of white polymer with a coating of liquid polymer White polymer needed to be the base for the alcohol inks so their bright colors stayed bright....

What do you do with too big of a collection?  Is there such a thing as too big?  too many? maybe! I'm sharing a couple of ideas today!  My focus when grouping or arranging like items (a collection) is to tell a story.  Any of my past design clients and friends know this about me.  Tell a story! One of my many collections has to do with magic and elves and fairies.  Bright colors, some glitter, some imagination.  There was an empty ledge at the top of my bookcase in my studio where I need some magic playing for my creativity.  So I grouped three of my elves with a polymer glitter flower, hung a butterfly and added an old birdcage music box.  Who wouldn't like to be part of that glimpse into fairyland? The second collection I'm sharing today is my seashell collection.  We've all seen the glass jars with seashells stacked and there is nothing wrong with that display.  But I wanted to see and be able to pick up the different ty...

Remember the post I shared with you about 'Choices'  ?   https://lindabrittdesign.blogspot.com/2018/03/choices-epic-fail-or-ive-learned-lot.html I had some requests wanting to see what I did with the two silver bands that started out to be symmetrical silver cuffs. And then I actually melted part of the design because the torch was too hot.  Well I finally finished the cuff and here it is!  The I've Learned a Lot part of the last blog!  I like the fact that it is not symmetrical and that it has a story.  I had to really think about how I wanted to put the pieces together and how to finish it (I used Liver of Sulphur for the color).  Hammering the bracelet with the two thicknesses of silver was also a challenge.  But I persevered and and happy with the results!   It pays to be patient with creativity. ps.
